Michelle Williams’ Louis Vuitton Campaign Is An Edgy Turn For The Star (PHOTOS)

Daily Obsession: Olivia Palermo’s Louis Vuitton Bag

Though she has a sweet-as-a-button appeal, corsets , metallics and playful hems are all part of her style rotation. Fortunately, it looks like that fearlessness has paid off with a new gig as the face of Louis Vuitton . The actress stars in the fashion house’s autumn/winter 2013-14 campaign, which focuses on two new handbags, the W and the Capucines. Sporting wine-colored lips, dark brows and her signature cropped haircut, Williams looks particularly edgy in the Peter Lindbergh-lensed shots wearing clothing from the fall collection. It’s certainly a far cry from the young girl we met on “Dawson’s Creek.” Of course, this announcement isn’t too surprising — remember how great Williams looked in her show-stopping Louis Vuitton gown at the 2012 Oscars? This partnership is also particularly noteworthy, since it marks the star’s very first major fashion campaign. (Williams did star in the Band of Outsiders lookbook back in 2012, though.) You can catch her new Louis Vuitton ads in Marie Claire France on Aug. 2 or wait until they hit September and October fashion magazines Stateside.

The fashion house asked the Irish television presenter to take its colourful new style on a tour of her favourite London spots. The pictorial results can be seen on Vuitton’s website. “I’ve always been a huge Louis Vuitton fan,” Scanlon told us. “The monogrammed Keepall is my favourite bag of all time. It’s just such an iconic brand, so when I was asked to showcase their Neverfull and LV pre-autumn/winter 2013-14 and Icons 2013 collection in my favourite spots in London, I rescheduled a couple of things! Seriously, what girl wouldn’t want to go gallivanting around town in their Louis Vuitton finery?” Scanlon chose a diverse array of destinations for the shoot – including a laundrette; her favourite restaurant, Les Trois Garcons; Columbia Road Flower Market; and Canonbury Park. The 28-year-old – who is represented by Liz Matthews, the same agency that catapulted Alexa Chung to international fame – first began her relationship with Vuitton over “coffee and cake”.

Daughter’s Got a Brand New Bag, and It’s Louis Vuitton

The latest figures added to evidence of a rebound in the luxury sector as solid demand in Japan and the United States combined with recovery in Europe to offset China’s slowdown. Investors were concerned that Louis Vuitton’s growth was running out of steam after enjoying more than two decades of annual increases above 10 percent, driven by a rapid expansion around the globe. The stock in industry leader LVMH (LVMH.PA) rose as much as 5.7 percent – their biggest one-day gain in more than three years. LVMH Chief Executive Bernard Arnault, France’s richest man, said in January that Louis Vuitton’s slowdown was voluntary and the brand had put the brakes on opening new shops to preserve its exclusivity. At that time, Arnault publicly admitted for the first time that Louis Vuitton, LVMH’s biggest contributor to profits, was at risk of being too ubiquitous. To counter that perception, Arnault said the brand would move upscale and expand its leather bag offering while pruning its portfolio of LV-embossed canvas bags which make up two third of its business and generate gross margins of around 90 percent. LVMH Finance Director Jean-Jacques Guiony on Friday said Louis Vuitton’s margins rose in the first half, both at the operating and gross level, reversing a decline which analysts estimate started two or three years ago.

Louis Vuitton company increases Hermes stake again despite legal fines

In a somewhat aggressive move, LVMH has revealed its financial share in Hermes has grown from 22.6% to 23.1%, despite being issued a 8 million fine earlier this month . Now, that doesn’t sound like much of climb in everyday numbers, but in the world of stocks and shares? When you’ve already been warned off by official regulating bodies? It’s on a par with flipping the bird. Sparking rumours that family-run Hermes might be in more financial trouble than they’d care to articulate, there’s talk that new shares in the company are being leaked by those at the top, to help to keep the books afloat. Yikes.

Delphine Arnault on June 25 was named executive vice president of Vuitton, with responsibility for overseeing its product lines. Shell be the No. 2 executive in a unit that accounts for half of LVMHs pretax earnings, evidence that shes being groomed for a top jobperhaps the top jobat the Paris-based luxury giant. While Vuitton is still the worlds most valuable luxury brand, its losing ground to competitors such as Gucci and Prada ( 1913:HK ) as demand wanes for the iconic LV monogrammed handbag. A report last month by consultancy Millward Brown Optimor estimated that Vuittons brand value declined 12 percent over the past year. LVMH in April reported its weakest fashion and leather goods revenues in more than three years as sales flattened in China. As consumers make room for those luxuries that make them feel better by trading down on other items, it is the middle-of-the-road brands, such as Vuitton, that have suffered, Millward Brown Optimor said. Delphine Arnaults task will be to give the brand a more exclusive aura, deemphasizing its ubiquitous monogrammed canvas bags and introducing costlier leather bags.
